Description
Ground-Croaking Doves (Columbina cruziana) are charming little South American doves known for their peaceful nature, subtle beauty, and distinctive low, rolling “croaking” call. They spend much of their day foraging on the ground and are a wonderful choice for mixed-species aviaries.
Males are particularly striking, with a clean pale grey head, soft rosy-pink breast, and rich maroon wing patches that contrast beautifully with their warm brown plumage. Females are more understated, displaying softer brown-grey tones while retaining the species’ elegant appearance.
These doves are calm, hardy, and easy to care for, making them suitable for both experienced aviculturists and those looking to expand their aviary with a unique and peaceful species. They are best kept in pairs or small groups and thrive in spacious aviaries with plenty of ground space to forage.
