Description

Hanepoot is a wonderfully sweet, aromatic grape with a distinctive Muscat flavour.

The golden grapes are delicious eaten fresh and can also be used for jam, jelly, juice, raisins and preserves.

They have a rich, almost honeyed flavour that makes Hanepoot noticeably different from many ordinary supermarket table grapes.

A little tip: Chill them before eating. A cold, ripe Hanepoot grape in summer requires almost no further human interference.

Hanepoot Grape Jam

Ingredients

500 g Hanepoot grapes
300 g sugar
Juice of ½ lemon

Method

Wash the grapes and remove them from the stems.

Place them into a saucepan and gently crush.

Add the sugar and lemon juice.

Cook over a low heat until the sugar dissolves.

Simmer gently until thickened, stirring regularly.

Spoon into a clean sterilised jar.

Tammy’s tip: Keep an eye out for seeds while preparing the grapes. Jam should contain surprises, but preferably flavour-based ones.
